Among the mountains of Abruzzo, in central Italy, lie the ruins of the Convent of Santa Maria di Cartignano. More than a thousand years old, the church survives today as a monumental stone shell, with its façade and arches still standing, while much of the roof and one of its lateral sections have been lost.
A new use is envisaged for the complex: a venue for concerts, music, theatre and live performance. Can you imagine how the church could be completed and reinterpreted to accommodate this new cultural space?
Architects, interior designers, designers, architecture students, and all professionals and students in the design disciplines are invited to take part. Taking part in the competition means sharing the mission of Reuse Italy: the enhancement of the abandoned historical heritage of Italy. Caring for these places is an ethical responsibility and a generational task, and every proposal contributes to giving them a new future.

2D Drawings
A detailed survey of the Convent of Santa Maria di Cartignano, with site plan, floor plan, elevations and sections. The drawings are set up to receive each design proposal, so participants can focus entirely on the quality of their project.
3D Model
A 3D model built from the survey, reproducing the volumes, openings and main architectural elements of the complex. It offers an accurate base for design studies, views and renderings.
Photos
Drone and ground-level photos document the building in detail and support any photo-insertion. The videos guide participants through the ruin, from the landscape setting to the smallest architectural detail.
BENEFITS
After the subscription to the competition, you will access to:
DOSSIERS COMPLETE COLLECTION
Get inspired! After registration, you will gain access to the FULL collection of dossiers from previous competitions, including the best projects and the interviews with the winners. These materials show what makes a winning proposal and let you learn directly from the designers awarded in past editions.
EXTRA MATERIALS
The participation kit that you can download here is already comprehensive and represents a first selection of the material collected on site. An extended set of materials will be provided after registration, including more photos, videos and other files useful for the design.
Publication
The winning proposals and the mentions will be published in a book with ISBN. In addition to the prizes, every participant who submits a high-quality project has the opportunity to be selected for publication in the book, gaining international visibility for their work.
Exhibition
The submitted projects will be displayed at a local exhibition in Bussi sul Tirino (PE), organised together with the local institutions. The exhibition is the moment when the proposals are officially presented to the community, opening a public dialogue on the future of the Convent of Santa Maria di Cartignano.
