The Organization

Reuse Italy is an Italian benefit corporation that promotes cultural activities aimed at safeguarding and revitalizing the country’s rich historical and architectural heritage. Since its foundation in 2018, the organization has positioned itself at the forefront of the adaptive reuse movement, emphasizing the crucial role of architectural design in breathing new life into disused heritage sites. Through a multidisciplinary model grounded in education, research, and cultural engagement, Reuse Italy champions an innovative and inclusive approach to heritage conservation.

Over the years, Reuse Italy has established itself as a leading actor in the field, curating a wide range of initiatives including international workshops, calls for projects, exhibitions, documentary films, publications, and public debates. These initiatives have taken place across a diverse portfolio of fifteen abandoned heritage sites in Italy.

The organization fosters bottom-up processes of reuse by actively involving local communities—through open calls and public assemblies—to identify neglected heritage sites and participate in envisioning their future. This participatory model not only enhances civic awareness but also strengthens the sense of ownership and belonging within communities. In this context, the architectural project becomes both a narrative and a tool for transformation, revealing the potential of each site through design.

Reuse Italy works in partnership with national institutions, municipalities, universities, and globally acclaimed architects.

By combining visionary architectural thinking with grassroots engagement and institutional support, Reuse Italy continues to lead the way in reimagining the future of Italy’s architectural heritage, transforming forgotten places into cultural beacons for the communities of today and tomorrow.
